Has there been any talk or thoughts on adding hotkeys to the program? For example adding 'ctrl + s' to open up the Strongs. Or even adding a right-click option with the mouse for some of the Tools like the Strongs? It would make it so much easier than having to use the mouse to go up to the Tools, click on it and then go down to the Strongs line and click on it. (I am just using the Strongs option as an example.) :) Just a thought. Tom |

Keyboard Shortcuts
BPBible supports a number of shortcuts, which are documented at http://code.google.com/p/bpbible/wiki/KeyboardShortcuts.
Adding any keyboard shortcut has to be considered fairly carefully, since:
1. It makes makes more things to remember if people are actually to use them.
2. It prevents the shortcut from being used for other things, and there are a limited number of shortcuts available.
For myself, the shortcuts I would use most would be 'g' (go to a different verse), 's' (search), 't' (tag the currently selected passage), 'n' (go to next search result), Ctrl-Shift-C (copy selected verses) and F5 and F8 (next and previous chapter).
I don't think Strongs is important enough to have a separate keyboard shortcut. It is just one resource of many, and it doesn't make sense to have one keyboard shortcut for each one (though having better ways to change the currently selected one might be a good idea). For the same reason, I'm not convinced that having a separate gospel harmony window and shortcut is very helpful. I'm not even sure what you mean (do you mean changing the current dictionary to Strongs, or do you mean displaying or hiding Strongs in the current Bible, or do you mean something completely different?)
If you think any shortcut that is not there is important, please reply saying why it is important and how you would use it that gives significant advantage over a menu entry.
Maybe a toolbar?
What I meant was to hide or display the Strongs reference in the current Bible.
I completely understand your reasoning because there are a lot of different options that are available. What about adding a toolbar with those options on it. In my way of thinking (which sometimes I know is in the minority ) one click is a lot easier and quicker than two to three clicks to get what you are looking for.
With reference to the Strongs, actually I use it quite a bit. A lot of times with looking at the original language, it makes it so much easier to understand.
Thanks again for all your hard work on this program - especially the portable version (which is the one I use)!

Toolbar usage
Toolbars take up screen space (and quite a lot when you have text as well as icon, which have much better visibility and makes bigger and easier to hit targets but limits the number you can have). Again, while I am not hostile to adding useful shortcuts, it is unlikely to change quickly. While we continue to make releases in the 0.4 series which hopefully add useful capabilities, it is not really a focus of our effort. BPBible 0.5 will probably change a lot of things about how all the text is displayed, and in particular how original language content works and how it is displayed, and so I think it makes more sense deferring thinking of the sensible way to do things until then. (Just don't expect it soon).
Thank you
Jon,
Thank you for your reply! I am not expecting anything but was just curious if this concept had been thought of or brought up before. I really appreciate the program and use the portable version all the time. I look forward to seeing it develop and grow!!
